UNITARIAN

All seven of our Congregational books document early Unitarian churches in their areas!

Most of American Unitarianism began as a division in Congregationalism, particularly after 1806. Many established churches and their legal societies chose Unitarian pastors and broke ties with Trinitarian Congregational associations and agencies. In other communities, the legal society that owned the church buildings and property chose Unitarian leadership, while the majority of the covenanted churches continued outside of those settings. All such originally Congregational churches are documented in the main Congregational sections of our New England and Southern books.

Independent Unitarian churches began in Pennsylvania in the 1790's. Others also began before 1850 in every region of the United States and Canada. Every one of our seven Congregational books includes an “Appendix I.,” that documents all such new Unitarian churches founded before 1850!
